Mini fridge

It seems like more and more hotels are removing minibars from their rooms, so if you ever need to refrigerate something in a hotel room you might not think it’s possible. But on a recent trip to San Diego, I learned that it is. My son Jack was put on an antibiotic that needed to be chilled. Instead of using the room’s ice bucket, I called the front desk at the Omni San Diego and asked if they had a mini fridge. Sure enough, they did, and they delivered it within minutes free of charge. I thought it was pretty cool but then one of my travel colleagues told me that almost every hotel offers them. Now I know to ask—and to bring my leftovers back to the room.

The Delano in Las Vegas charge $40 a night to have a refrigerator brought up to the room. There’s no space in the minibar refrigerator.

I requested a mini fridge and a microwave, since my husband needed special food that I had to bring with me. Also, I had all the bedspreads removed and extra blankets provided. This was several years ago but my requests were immediately granted so that when we arrived, the room was all set up.

Thank you for mentioning this. Our group has found that most hotels will also supply softer pillows, harder mattresses, and down free of the same. You never know what a hotel will do until you ask directly not via the 800 res number.
