Our Favorite Limited Time Credit Card Offers Available Now

With banks tightening their approval policies, it is now more important than ever to maximize the rewards you earn when applying for a new travel credit card. You need to be selective and strategic when picking out credit cards. The best way to score extra miles and points is by taking advantage of these limited-time credit card offers. Follow along as we discuss some of our favorites.

What are limited-time credit card offers?

Banks are constantly testing out offers for credit cards to see which resonate with potential customers. This is why you may see an offer for 40,000 points on one website and 50,000 points on another. Some offers are only available through targeted campaigns you receive via email or traditional mail.

When banks are launching a new product or if they are experiencing a lull in applications, they’ll release a limited time offer to generate a buzz around a credit card. One of the best examples of the last couple of years was when the Chase Sapphire Reserve was launched with a 100,000 point bonus.

To earn the 100k, you’ll first have to spend $10,000 on qualifying purchases within the first 3 months of card membership, which will earn you 50,000 points. Then, spend an extra $15,000 on qualifying purchases during the same 3 months to earn the additional 50,000 points.

This means you’ll need to spend $25,000 on qualifying purchases in the first 3 months of account opening in order to earn the 100,000 points.

CitiBusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select World Mastercard

This is the best bonus I’ve ever seen for the business version of the Citi AAdvantage credit card. With a 70,000 point bonus, it is 16% higher than the previous high of 60,000 points. The great thing is that Citibank still allows you to try this card for free for a year by waiving the $95 annual fee the first year.

You’ll find huge value with this card when you earn a companion ticket after spending $30,000 each year. That benefit alone could be well worth keeping this credit card year after year.

Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Card

Chase and Southwest bounce their bonuses around on a regular basis. I’ve seen normal offers ranging from 30,000 to 50,000. This varied depending on the marketing channel they’re using – website, blogs, airport kiosks, etc. This offer of earing 60,000 after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months of account opening is the best I’ve seen.

Combining the 60,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Business Credit Card bonus and the 60,000 personal credit card bonus is the fastest and easiest path to earning the coveted Southwest Companion Pass. If you apply now and meet the minimum spend on both cards quickly, you can enjoy the Companion Pass benefits for about a year and a half.

Don’t Settle For Less Rewards

As you have seen, there are some very lucrative rewards available right now. Don’t settle for less. You have an easy opportunity to maximize the airline miles and hotels points available to you. Take advantage with a couple of credit card applications with these limited-time credit card offers.

Decisions about premium rates depend on a number of factors:

  • Age
  • Your driving record and history of claims
  • Where your car is located
  • The type of car you have
  • How you use your car
  • Your credit score

Texas law requires you to have 30/60/25 liability coverage, this means $30,000 in bodily injury liability per person, $60,000 per accident, and $25,000 in property damage liability. This is called state minimum insurance. It is generally the cheapest, however there are some definite ‘costs’ to this low price. If you only have the state minimum and get into an accident, your car will not be protected and you will have to pay out of pocket for any repairs that your car might require. If you get into a major accident and your car is totaled, you will not have any financial help in replacing the car and no rental car coverage in the shorter term.

How much you pay for cheap car insurance in Philadelphia depends on more factors than just your home zip code. Insurance companies determine your rate by calculating how risky it is to insure you as a motorist (ie. the likelihood that you’ll need to file a claim). Here are a few factors that go into their equation:

  • Age – Younger drivers pay more on average.
  • Gender – Women tend to get better rates than men. Credit Score – Yep, bad credit affects your car insurance rates too.
  • Type of vehicle – If you drive a sports car or convertible, you’ll be more expensive to insure than someone who drives a sedan.
  • Driving record – Accidents and speeding tickets will cause your rates to skyrocket.

The following are the best insurance providers in the Philadelphia area on average. Not every driver will get the best possible policy from these companies, but this group is a good starting place for your shopping trip.

Best Overall: Allstate – Allstate has agents all over the city providing customers with a simple and painless experience. Rates are among the lowest for all forms of coverage, including comprehensive and collision.

Most Affordable: GEICO – According to Carinsurance.com, the gecko offers the best rates both for state minimum coverage and comprehensive 100/300/100 coverage. They’re also one of the few companies that doesn’t require you to buy a policy through an agent, which reduces the price. (However, some drivers may feel more comfortable dealing with their own agent).

Best Customer Experience: Erie Insurance Group – Erie won a JD Power Award for the 2019 Insurance Shopping Study and consistently provides high quality service with affordable policy rates.

Best for Veterans: USAA – Active or former members of the armed services can get terrific discounts on car insurance through companies like USAA, which works to help veterans get better deals on insurance products.

To get on the road legally, Pennsylvania drivers must have at least the following coverages:

  • $30,000 bodily liability per accident
  • $15,000 bodily liability per person
  • $5,000 property damage coverage
  • $5,000 first party medical benefits

Luckily for Philly drivers, these minimums are far below the national averages for state requirements. The 40-year old driver from our first example would only pay about $1000 per year if they chose the state minimum over full coverage.

A combination of factors are in play: Pennsylvania’s unique laws, a dense population, and some of the most accident-prone drivers in the nation work together to jack up car insurance prices for Philadelphia drivers.

Rental car insurance for the Chase Sapphire Preferred works by offering the Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) as reimbursement for damage due to a collision or theft (up to the cash value) on most rental vehicles globally. Vehicles not covered include expensive or antique automobiles, motor vehicles, recreational vehicles, vehicles with an open cargo bed, and more. You can learn more here.

This is considered primary coverage. That means you will not have to file a claim with a third party before you can receive coverage of this benefit. This car rental insurance benefit can save you money and help you avoid many hassles when traveling.

To enable Auto Rental CDW, use your Chase Sapphire Preferred to make the rental purchase (you’ll get 2x points per $1 spent) and decline the rental company’s collision damage waiver if offered.

If they refuse to accept or you run into problems with this rental car insurance perk, call the number on the back of your card.

If you are looking to cancel your Chase Sapphire Preferred, there are a few things you can do. Simply log on to your account at Chase.com and send an email requesting the cancelation to customer service. Alternatively, you can call the number on the back of your card.

However, note that closing your account may actually hurt your credit score due to it affecting your credit history. Instead, consider downgrading your card to an eligible no-annual-fee Chase credit card such as the Chase Freedom. You may even be able to keep your card number and credit line.

By doing this, you’ll avoid hurting your credit score. Additionally, you’ll possibly be able to keep your options open. A call to a Chase representative can help you decide what’s best.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred has three hotel partners – IHG® Rewards Club (Expired), Marriott Bonvoy™, and World of Hyatt®. You can transfer your points to these three hotels at a 1:1 transfer rate.

Plus, your points are worth 25% more when you redeem for hotels through the Chase Ultimate Rewards® program. That means if you earn the sign-up bonus and book your hotel through the Ultimate Rewards program, you’ll have $750 in award travel.

In regards to the hotel upgrades, you can use your points and apply them to an upgrade at your preferred accommodation, given that it is with one of the three hotel partners.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred’s minimum spending limit is $5,000. On average, most cardholders have reported that their credit limit was raised to $10,000 after a few months of making payments on time and paying their card in full. Still, as many as 10% of users have reportedly received a credit limit of $20,000 or more.

If you are looking to upgrade your Chase Sapphire Preferred to a Chase Sapphire Reserve, all you need to do is call the number on the back of your card. There are also a couple of things you should take into consideration before contacting Chase.

For instance, if you have only had your Sapphire Preferred for less than a year, you will not be able to upgrade your card. You will also need to have at least $10,000 in available credit on your card. Your account should also be in good standing.

Note that even if you meet the above criteria, this does not guarantee that you will be approved.

If you are planning on making a big purchase, there are a few options to consider. A big purchase on the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant could bring you closer to more benefits. Cardholders who spend $75,000 in eligible purchases on their card in a calendar year earn Platinum Elite Status. This status means cardholders will have access to room upgrades, welcome gifts at check-in, 50% bonus points on stays, and more at Marriott Bonvoy properties.

Although the Southwest credit cards limited time offers have expired, the consumer cards still have a bonus of 40,000 points after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months of account opening. While this bonus isn’t anything to write home about, earning 110,000 points is. That’s because you can qualify for the Southwest Companion Pass which essentially lets a companion travel with you for a very low price of $5.60 each way.

Essentially, if you are going to make a big purchase, choose the card that makes the most sense for you. If you want the flexibility to travel, the Chase Sapphire Preferred is a good card to go for. If you fly Delta often, the Platinum Delta or Delta Reserve are good options since they earn plenty of miles and come with plenty of benefits.

Of the credit cards featured in our best limited-time travel credit card offers in 2019 post, the easiest credit cards to get approved for on average are likely going to be the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card or the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express.

The Southwest card sees an average approval rating at about 670. But some users have been approved with scores as low as 607. The Gold Delta sees an average approval of 675 with approval that was as low as 624.

If you prefer a more flexible card, your best bet would be the Chase Sapphire Preferred. While the average credit score for approved applicants is 736, some people have reportedly gotten approved with a score as low as 646. Because everyone has a different credit history, these will obviously vary from person to person.
