$1,250 Chase Sapphire Preferred Signup Bonus

New Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card cardholders can earn the card’s largest sign-up bonus.

You can earn 100,000 bonus Ultimate Rewards by spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months. This bonus is worth as much as $1,250 when booking award travel or the Chase Pay Yourself Back categories.

This bonus is only around for a limited time and it’s one of the most valuable credit card signup bonuses currently available.

The annual fee is $95 and there are no foreign transaction fees.

Who Qualifies for the Sapphire Bonus?

The Chase Sapphire application guidelines are tougher than some cards. For example, you may not qualify for the card if you have opened 5 or more new credit cards in the last 24 months due to Chase’s 5/24 rule.

You can qualify for this signup bonus if you meet these two conditions:

  • Do not currently own a Chase Sapphire product
  • Have not earned a Sapphire signup bonus in the last 48 months

If you qualify for this bonus, now can be the best time to apply for the Sapphire Preferred.

Sapphire Preferred Rewards and Perks

There are several Chase Sapphire reward categories. The Chase Sapphire Preferred earns unlimited:

  • 5x points on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards® (excluding hotel purchases that qualify for the $50 Anniversary Hotel Credit)
  • 5x points on Lyft rides (through March 2022)
  • 3x points on dining (including eligible delivery services, takeout, and dining out)
  • 3x points on online grocery purchases (excluding Target®, Walmart®, and wholesale clubs)
  • Also 3x points on select streaming services
  • 2x points on all other travel purchases
  • 1x point per $1 spent on all non-bonus purchases

There is a $50 annual Ultimate Rewards Hotel Credit. It comes in the form of a statement credit that will automatically be applied to your account when your card is used for hotel accommodation purchases made through the Ultimate Rewards program, up to an annual maximum accumulation of $50.

Plus, on each account anniversary, you’ll earn bonus points equal to 10% of your total purchases made the previous year. So, if you spend $25,000 on purchases, you’ll get 2,500 bonus points.

Additional Sapphire Preferred Perks

The $1,250 Chase Sapphire Preferred signup bonus is one reason to consider the card right now. But, here are some of the other valuable card benefits that add value when you travel or make local purchases.

There are also partner benefits with DoorDash, Lyft, and Peloton. Compare the Chase Sapphire Reserve vs Chase Sapphire Preferred if you want a better idea of which one works best for you.

I have a question about another credit card. I currently have a gold Delta card. I can upgrade to platinum card which goes from $99 per year to $250 per year fee. The upgrade gives you 50,000 miles and a $200 credit. Have 3 trips planned for 2022 is this worth it to upgrade? Thank you

If you’re planning on using buying your flights with your Delta card you will earn more with the upgraded card as well, so I think it would be beneficial to upgrade. But I would check the standard sign-up bonus on the upgraded card available first.
