Bubble wrap 720x360If you weren’t already aware, I co-host a weekly travel-themed Twitter chat: the hour-long #TravelSkills chat, every Friday at 12pm ET. It’s a great place to share travel tips as well as learn some. One tip I picked up recently was to travel with bubble wrap if you like to shop (especially for fragile goods). Thanks, @CaitlinKellyNYC!

Want more tips? For all who want to participate, tomorrow’s #TravelSkills chat is on summer travel to Europe. Here’s how to sign up for weekly chat reminders, and (in case you’re wondering) here’s how a Twitter chat works.

We spent a memorable afternoon in Oaxaca going from one store to the next trying to find bubble wrap. Not knowing the word in Spanish led to a comical display of charades trying to describe what we were looking for. We finally found it but traveling with it would have been much easier.

Back in 2004, was in Sweden for aunts funeral and to clear out her apartment. Needed bubble wrap for some family treasures that I was going to ship home with other items so trying to find it was a real challenge. Seems they don’t sell it in stores because it’s not recycled! What to do? Finally went to local computer dealer and then camera/photo store. They had some that they would have had to pay to dispose of (from incoming shipments) so were happy to part with it for free!

I always bring bubble wrap with me on trips, otherwise I have to buy it. Take some tape too. If you think a roll of bubble wrap takes too much space, unroll it and lay in top or bottom of suitcase.
