As I wrote in Monday’s tip, six countries are severing or suspending diplomatic ties with the state of Qatar. One of them is United Arab Emirates. Well, according to local paper The Gulf News, “Qatar sympathisers will now be facing a jail term up to 15 years and be slapped with a fine of not less than half a million dirhams.” Counsellor Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, UAE Attorney-General, announced that the UAE has taken a firm stance against Qatar’s hostile and irresponsible policies. “Strict and firm action will be taken against anyone who shows sympathy or any form of bias towards Qatar, or against anyone who objects to the position of the United Arab Emirates, whether it be through the means of social media, or any type of written, visual or verbal form.”

As noted by the U.K.’s travel advisory service, caution is also required in Bahrain, where “showing sympathy for Qatar on social media or by any other means of communication is an offence. If you commit any such offence you could be imprisoned and subject to a substantial fine.”

Moral of the tip: Be careful—extra careful when you’re in the region—what you say, including on social media.

H/T to One Mile at a Time.

I say about Qatar it is a fine place with a fine country. it is very Western friendly and much better than UAE. Their airline has taken a step backwards from Qatar Airlines and I guess whichever fuck-wit made the decision to invest in all A380’s is now trying to stifle the competition because of their fuck-ups. Why do we deal with these people? And because all QF flights go through UA to Europe, I am banning them ( Question: How does the homosexual CEO of Qantas equate his decision to openly deal with a country that jails homosexuals? ) Al? I am officially black-banning Emirates and anything to do with those bastards. It’s shocking what they are doing to Qatar based on fake media and appalling what they do tho their own people. They import slave labour from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, Philippines and pay them peanuts and treat them like shit. All I can say is fuck UAE. You will never get a cent of my money.
