How To Use Chase Pay Yourself Back Categories

Chase introduced the Pay Yourself Back program in 2020. Cardholders of eligible Chase cards can redeem their Ultimate Rewards points for a statement credit using Pay Yourself Back for purchases made at select merchants during the appropriate time period.

To use this service, choose an eligible purchase made with your eligible card from the past 90 days. Then, apply the points for all or part of the purchase and receive a statement credit.

Here are the cards that currently feature the Chase Pay Yourself Back program.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card has new categories for travel-related purchases.

Your points are worth 25% more when you request a statement credit for these purchases:

  • Airbnb
  • Away (through awaytravel.com)
  • Select charitable contributions

The categories are active from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022.

Each Chase Sapphire Preferred point is also worth 25% more when booking award travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards.

In addition to these redemption offers, several recent card additions include getting an annual $50 hotel statement credit on Chase Ultimate Rewards purchases. Additionally, get a 10% bonus each card anniversary on the total number of points you earn each card membership year.

The Chase Pay Yourself Back categories also apply to select no annual fee cards. The Freedom card family continues to offer a 25% bonus on select charitable contributions.

Participating cards are:

Chase Freedom 4th Quarter Bonus Categories

In addition to the 25% charity redemption bonus, the Freedom and Freedom Flex recently announced their 4th quarter 5% back bonus categories:

  • PayPal purchases
  • Walmart (in-store and online)

You will earn 5% back on the first $1,500 in combined purchases from October 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021. All remaining spending earns 1% back. However, you must activate your categories before December 15, 2021, to start earning 5% back for the quarter.

Just in case you’re looking for a way to double-dip and boost your earnings, know that Walmart purchases you pay for with PayPal will only earn 5% back.

Summary

In conclusion, these Chase Pay Yourself Back categories closely align with the card’s ordinary bonus categories. For example, you will need to travel to use the Chase Sapphire Pay Yourself Back rewards this fall. The Ink Business options are still beneficial for everyday business purchases while business travel remains relatively sluggish.
