Don't let your checked bag get takenMake sure your checked bag stands out! You could use a colorful bag like the one above, or tie a tie to it, attach a loofa to it, paint the wheels, etc. If your bag isn’t unique—and really in any case, to be safe—be sure to get to the bag carousel before the bags come out so that other passengers don’t accidentally take yours. Someone almost took my black bag last week in Phoenix!

We went to Europe with friends. Her carry on bag was bright pink. Probably in Atlanta, it got swapped with one just like…we think maybe at the check-in counter. She didn’t discover her problem until she arrived in Rome. The other lady was somewhere in Georgia. Half way through our trip, she recovered he bag in Frankfurt!

I would never suggest tieing a tie to your suitcase. Anything that dangles can get caught in baggage transfer machinery and damage it. There are so many distinctive bags on the market these days that it is easy to have a unique one. If you do want to use a plain bag, buy fabric paint from the craft store or acrylic spray paint (depending on the composition of your bag) and use a stencil to mark your initials in large, colourful letters.
