If you’re in the market for a flexible travel rewards card with airline transfer partners and multiple ways to earn bonus points, you might consider the Citi ThankYou Premier. For a limited time, you can earn 60,000 bonus ThankYou points (worth $750 in award flights)! You may also earn up to 3x points on travel and at gas stations. Plus, Citi waives the $95 annual fee for the first year of ownership.
How to Earn 60,000 Bonus ThankYou Points
The 60,000-point bonus offer is yours when you spend $4,000 in the first three months of ownership. Usually, the ThankYou Premier signup bonus is 50,000 points with the same spending requirement.
For the same spending amount, you earn an extra 10,000 points worth an extra $125 when you redeem your points for award flights during their limited time offer.
This bonus is only available to new cardmembers who haven’t owned one of these cards in the past 24 months:
- ThankYou Preferred
- ThankYou Premier
- Citi Prestige
Earn Up to 3x Points on Travel and Gas Stations
If it’s all about the points, you can earn 3 points per $1 on every travel purchase. That’s the same amount of points as the Chase Sapphire Reserve without the higher annual fee. Note that you also get 3x points at gas stations.
With the Citi ThankYou Premier, you will earn up to 3x points on the following purchases:
- 3x points: Travel and Gas Stations
- 2x points: Dining and Entertainment
- 1x point: All remaining purchases
For all spending categories, you earn unlimited bonus points!
Redeeming Your Citi ThankYou Premier Points
You have several different point redemption options with the ThankYou Premier, but your three most valuable options are going to be award flights, airline point transfers, and gift cards. Since the ThankYou Premier is a travel credit card, award flights and point transfers have the highest cash value.
There’s also the option to redeem your points for cash back and merchandise, but your points are worth less than 1 cent each. The “gold standard” for credit card redemption value is 1 cent per point. Redeeming them for less value than this benchmark is better than nothing, but you should look for better redemption options first.
Award Flights Receive a 25% Redemption Bonus
For convenience, you might enjoy the 25% redemption bonus Citi offers on award flights. You receive this bonus for any award flight booked on the Citi ThankYou travel portal. Your 60,000 bonus points are worth $750 when redeemed for award flights.
Because you can redeem your points for any airline without blackout dates, this is probably the most valuable redemption option.
Transfer Your ThankYou Points to a Frequent Flyer Program
Airline point transfers have the most potential value because many of the best award flights are found on the airline website. Citi has 15 airline transfer partners and most of them offer 1:1 transfer partners. While there are plenty of transfer partners, many of the transfer partners are probably not your primary airline.
But if you’re planning on booking a flight on one of the following airlines, it’s worth the transfer when each point can be worth at least 1.25 cents each.
The current list of Citi airline transfer partners includes:
- Asia Miles
- Avianca LifeMiles
- EVA Air Infinity
- AirFrance Flying Blue
- Jet Airways
- Garuda Indonesia
- Malaysia Airlines
- Qatar Airways
- Singapore Airlines
- Thai Airways
- Turkish Airlines
- Virgin Atlantic
Most of these transfers will be for international flights. Citi doesn’t have any hotel transfer partners at this time.
You can also redeem your points for gift cards for 1 cent each. It’s not as valuable as booking award flights, but it’s a way to get cash rewards and still get 1 cent per point.
Additional ThankYou Premier Card Benefits
There isn’t much to speak of in regards to additional card benefits for the ThankYou Premier. Its primary strengths are the 3-2-1 purchase rewards and the flexible redemption options. Not many cards offer a 25% travel redemption bonus and 1:1 point transfers with a $95 annual fee.
That doesn’t mean you can find some more value from your ThankYou Premier card.
Trip Delay Insurance
If your trip gets delayed at least 12 hours, you can qualify for $500 in trip delay insurance benefits. If the carrier doesn’t reimburse you for essential related expenses, use
You can also call Citi Concierge to help you book travel and dinner reservations. Citi Concierge can also assist with shopping and entertainment options.
Flexible Payment Due Date
You get to select your payment due date in the beginning, middle, or end of the month. Paying your balance in full ensures you earn your rewards points and never pay interest charges.
