Bag 720x360Each Friday, we feature a reader-submitted tip as our Travel Tip of the Day. This week’s tip comes from reader Lyn C., who says:

“When we travel, I change the luggage tags to my destination. For example, we visited our friends in Germany for five weeks. If my suitcases were lost in transit, I would not want them returned to the US. I changed the tags to our hosts’ address. On the return trip, I replaced the tags with my ‘home’ tags.

Similarly, I do not put our phone number on the luggage tags. I use my brother’s number who is at home waiting for any ‘problem’ call.”

A great tip. Thanks, Lyn!

I do this every time I travel. I did a trip around the world back in 2005, and I put the hotel address of the next city on my luggage tag along with the hotel phone number, and at that time I had a satellite phone so I put my satellite phone number on the luggage tags as well.

Sounds like a great idea. I have not experienced losing my luggage or the airline misplaced it, but will definitely try customizing my tag as suggested; better be safe than sorry hehe.

Customizing tags definitely makes sense Johnny. It’s good you posted it because simple as it may be, a lot of people forget to do this (includes me) :)

Very simple yet quite a useful tip. Luggage tags are indeed handy but this makes them even more useful!
