Keep a digital copy of your insurance card on your phoneIn an interesting story about the future of driver’s licenses in America (following Louisiana making electronic driver’s licenses available), author Jenni Bergal writes that “Only one state – New Mexico – does not allow drivers to use an electronic copy of their insurance card during a traffic stop, according to the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America.” This got me thinking.

This is the same as saying that 49 out of 50 U.S. states will accept an electronic copy of your car insurance at a traffic stop, and so it seems to me that it would be smart to keep a copy on your phone so it’s available if you need it in a pinch. Doing so is as simple as taking a photo of your physical insurance card and storing it somewhere easy to remember (like in its own album in the Photos app). You never know when it might come in handy.

Good idea. My wife was pulled over by a policeman last year, and she couldn’t find it. He was nice, and let her off by suggesting that she do that.

I can’t find the picture button on my black dial phone. Besides the cord won’t reach that far.

Remember, if you give your phone to a policeman that is permission to search your phone for anything. It’s your choice.
