Don’t snorkel or dive aloneMost of the U.S. is under a deep freeze today (see: What to Do: Weather Delays and Flight Cancellations), but in case you’re planning to escape and go somewhere warm…

Today’s tip comes from the U.K. government’s travel advisory service (I’ve recommended it before) and was originally aimed at travelers to Jordan, but it’s good advice for travelers in any part of the world:

“If you’re considering diving or snorkelling in Aqaba, be aware that safety standards of diving operators can vary considerably. Never dive or snorkel unaccompanied. Where possible make bookings through your tour representative and make sure the operator is accredited with an internationally recognised scheme such as PADI.”

The same goes for jetskiing, as I’ve written before, and other adventurous/dangerous activities in unfamiliar places. Be smart!
