Editor’s Note: We wanted to give you a heads up that on October 4, 2018, the 100,000 bonus point offer will end. As a reminder, here are some of the highlights of the new product.
It’s not every day you have the chance to earn 100,000 IHG points. This bonus offer is one of the highest ever for the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card. To top it off, there’s a way to earn an additional 15,000 extra points along with other exclusive card benefits. Read on to learn more about them.
How to Get 100,000 IHG Points (Limited Time Offer)
The 100,000 IHG points bonus is for new IHG Premier Card cardholders, 20,000 points higher than the usual 80,000 points bonus. IHG rewards nights start at 5,000 points.
To get the 100,000 bonus points, you must spend $3,000 in the first three months of account opening. It’s that simple! Note though, that this offer expires October 4, 2018.
Add an Authorized User for 5,000 Bonus Points
You can earn an extra 5,000 points by adding an authorized user within the first three months of account opening. After making your first purchase in the three-month period, you earn the bonus.
Spend $20,000 to Get a Final 10,000 Points
This third earning option turns your 100,000-point bonus into a 115,000-point bonus!
You have one year to spend $20,000 in total card purchases. After hitting the $20,000 spending mark, you must make one additional purchase.
The IHG Premier Card will need to be your primary credit card to receive this bonus. If you can earn it, great! If not, the other two earning opportunities are both easy to achieve.
Other IHG Premier Card Benefits
IHG has a large hotel portfolio for domestic and foreign travel. Some of their brands include:
- Holiday Inn Express
- Crowne Plaza
- Candlewood Suites
- Staybridge Suites
- Hotel Indigo
These hotels are all clean, comfortable, and available in many destinations. With over 5,200+ hotels around the globe, you won’t have trouble finding a place to use your 100,000 IHG points and these additional card benefits.
One Free Anniversary Night
With every card anniversary, you get one free hotel night. This free night is valid at any hotel that costs 40,000 points or less. Most properties cost 25,000 points or less, so this can be a free way to stay at a luxury property.
This perk alone pays the $89 annual card fee. Many people get co-brand hotel cards just for the free hotel night awards.
Fourth Reward Night Free
When you have a 4+ night stay, pay with points. You will get the fourth night free!
Since you have 100,000 bonus points plus your regular purchase rewards, you will have enough points to book a 4+ night stay with points.
Platinum Elite Status
Platinum Elite status is the second highest tier in the IHG Rewards Club program. It also comes with some nice benefits:
- Free room upgrades (when available)
- 72-Hour Room Guarantee
- $30 In-Room Spa Credit
- 50% Bonus Points
- Elite Rollover Nights
Earn Up to 10 Points per $1 Spent
The IHG Premier card also has some lofty purchase rewards.
- 10x points on all IHG purchases
- 2x points at gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants
- 1x points for all remaining purchases
IHG offers one of the highest purchase rewards as a loyalty bonus for paid IHG stays. The 2x bonus categories help you maximize your daily spending too.
If you need to buy IHG points, you get a 20% discount when you pay with the IHG Premier. This isn’t something you’ll do on a regular basis, but it’s worth keeping in mind.
Free Global Entry or TSA PreCheck
Another new park that’s unique to hotel credit cards is the free Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. You can skip the long airport security lines when you fly. You might get the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card for the hotel benefits, but this air travel perk is a nice addition too.
Redeeming Your 100,000 IHG Points Bonus
What do you do with all your IHG points? Spend them on free nights of course! You won’t find a shortage of places to redeem your IHG points. There are plenty of domestic and foreign properties you can enjoy.
To enjoy more member benefits, you might try to stay at an international or upscale property. But even if you just need to crash for the night along the highway, that works too.
Most IHG nights cost between 15,000 and 25,000 points. If you can find a discount property, try booking it.
The quickest way to spot bargains is IHG PointBreaks. In the past, this page only offered 5,000-point properties. Now you can find discount nights for 10,000 and 15,000 points too. IHG separates each category into US and global properties.
If you want luxury, you should look at the global section. You will see InterContinetal and Hotel Indigo properties abroad. There are many Holiday Inn Express and Crowne Plaza global PointBreaks properties too. In the states, you will mostly see Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, and Candlewood Suites. There is a periodic Hotel Indigo or Staybridge Suites, but these properties usually disappear first.
IHG updates the list quarterly. Check back at the first of a month to look for new offers.
Global InterContinental Properties
When you travel abroad, the InterContinental properties excel at delivering luxury and value. This upscale brand can be a better deal than the domestic InterContinental hotels.
Two of the best InterContinental properties you should consider include:
- InterContinental Bali Resort (40,000 points per night)
- InterContinental Porto (45,000 points)
There are more than 180 InterContinental hotels to choose from, so see if one is nearby when you travel.
Candlewood Suites or Staybridge Suites
If you’re staying for 4+ nights, these two extended stay brands are a good option. When you have a choice, opt for the Staybridge Suites. Staybridge usually offers free dinner and drinks on weeknights plus free breakfast. The room accommodations are usually more comfortable than a Holiday Inn Express or Candlewood Suites too.
Plus, the rewards nights for these rooms can be lower than other IHG brands. Candlewood is usually one of the more affordable brands for reward nights.
Both of these brands also come with an in-room kitchen so you can make your own meals. With a 4+ night stay, get the 4th night free with the IHG Premier Card.
Pay With Points and Cash
Your points can last longer when you pay with points and cash. Depending on the nightly rate, it can be worth splitting the purchase. You still have to pay cash for part of the rate, but this can be better if the reward night price is too high in relation to the price.
This is the biggest IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card bonus yet. You only have to spend $3,000 in the first three months to get 100,000 IHG points. Plus, IHG gives you two ways to earn an extra 15,000 points. If you achieve all three goals, your bonus is actually 115,000 bonus points. That’s worth notably more than the regular 80,000 points bonus and you have up to 23 free IHG nights.
Remember, this offer ends October 4, 2018.
