Looking for a fun project to do with your kids this Easter? This Easter egg craft is one of my favorites and they are so easy to do. Straight up dyeing eggs is an easy craft for kids and this one is a little more involved. But the little ones will love to help regardless.

How to Make Gold Leaf Easter Eggs

You’ll need:
Craft paint (I used Martha Stewart Craft Paint)
Small paintbrushes
Gold Leaf Kit (I used the Speedball Mona Lisa Gold Leaf Kit)
Foam brushes
Paper plates
Newspaper or a disposable tablecloth to cover your work surface
Instructions
It’s up to you whether you want to use hard-boiled eggs or whether you want to blow them out. Keep in mind that if you blow the eggs out, they’ll be more delicate so perhaps not ideal for younger children to work with.
To color your eggs, you have a few options. You can dye them the traditional way or you can paint them. I like the look of paint (two coats gave me a pretty saturated look). Simply paint one side of the egg, then set it down on a paper plate to dry, then paint the other side. If you want an even smoother finish, you could spray paint your eggs but you’d need a well-ventilated area to do this in.
Wait until the eggs have dried completely before starting the gold leafing. Using a fine paint brush, apply the glue in random strokes around your egg and let the glue set for about a minute. Then apply a sheet of gold leaf around the egg and rub it down to make sure it adheres to all the spots where there’s glue. Then, using your foam brush, rub away the gold leaf. Anything that’s not stuck to the glue will fall away. Let the eggs set for about 10 minutes, then use another clean paint brush to apply the gold leaf sealer. This will set the gold leaf in place and give the eggs a pretty sheen.
The best part about this craft is that since the goal is an abstract pattern, you really can’t make a mistake! Enjoy making them and Happy Easter!
