I would argue that the islands of Hawaii are a dream destination for most Americans. Hawaii is the 50th U.S. state and of the eight major islands, four of them are where most travelers go: Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii (aka The Big Island). Lanai, off the coast of Maui, is popular among day trippers or the rich and famous who want to stay at the two luxurious Four Seasons resorts on the island.
I’ve been fortunate to visit all of the islands mentioned above numerous times. I’ve been over two dozen times, including once just for dinner when I took United’s 747 farewell flight and I needed to be in Tennessee the next day. Our first trip as a family of four was going to be to Hawaii earlier this year but COVID had other plans for us. Since it’s just a five-hour flight from Los Angeles, it’s an easy and beautiful getaway. I can’t wait to go back.
On almost all of my visits to Oahu (where Honolulu and Waikiki are located), I visit with my good buddy Nathan Kam. Nathan was raised on the island of Hawaii, graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and has been in the travel and public relations industry for more than 20 years.
