Today’s reminder: Take care of your cell phone! A not-so-sneaky thief just got busted stealing 100 (!) phones on the first day of the Coachella music festival. How’d he get caught? According to the story, some of the victims used the Find My iPhone feature on their iPhones, which pinpointed the thief’s (and his bounty’s) location.
I’ve written before about how helpful Find My iPhone can be. In the wake of this incident, I will double down on my advice to always, always try to use the Find My iPhone function if you lose an iPhone. And as I wrote later on, you should exercise extreme caution in pursuing a lost phone, especially on your own. At Coachella, the authorities were involved, and though it was festival-goers who tracked the thief, it was the police who “followed [him] though the venue and detained him.”
Most importantly, don’t let your guard down no matter where you are. You never know where a would-be thief could be waiting.
