JOHNNY JET'S Q & A

With Marcela Swenson

PROFILE:
I have a hard time staying in one place for too long. My international travels began when I went to Colombia at 2 months old and I've been obsessed with traveling the world since. Sometime during high school I decided I wanted to travel the world for a living. So far I've only gotten the traveling part down, now I'm just waiting for someone to pay me. So far I've been to 18 countries, traveling mostly on a frayed shoestring budget. When I'm traveling you can find me in streets, alleyways, or on front stoops with my beloved iBook, searching for a free wireless signal (I haven't paid for Internet access in over a year, both abroad and at home). When I'm home I can be found hosting karaoke at numerous bars around Los Angeles.

I haven’t belonged to a frequent flyer program for a year yet, but I have accumulated 35,000 in the past 9 months on AA.

What class of service do you typically fly?
Coach, it’s all I can afford and I sleep better in tiny seats.

Favorite airline?
American for domestic, China Air for international

Favorite hotel?
The Royal Sonesta, New Orleans

Aisle or window?
Window, as long as I go to the bathroom before the flight.

E-ticket or paper?
E-ticket, I can’t be trusted with a paper ticket.

Travel agent or book online?
Online, through johnnyjet.com, of course.

Favorite travel website (besides JohnnyJet.com, of course!):
www.moderngonzo.com has brilliant travel stories, pics and video from all over the world; www.sidestep.com for booking tickets, they consistently have the lowest prices; www.farecast.com for figuring out which days are cheaper to fly and when prices will be at their highest/lowest.

Favorite travel companion:
My boyfriend, and if he can’t come along, my sarong which serves as a sheet/pillow/skirt/towel/picnic blanket/tent when I need it

Best travel tip: When you get to a new city, take a bike tour to get a sense of the area.

THE REAL DEAL
If you were stranded on a deserted island, who would you want to be stranded with?
Tom Hanks, he’s gotten off of deserted islands before, hopefully he can do it again.

If you could meet one celebrity, alive or dead, who would it be?
Paul Rudd. He’s funny and pleasant to look at.

What's your most cherished travel memory?
Visiting a witch doctor in a Zulu village in South Africa. How many people can say they’ve done that?

Where is your dream destination?
Thailand. I’ve been there before and you just can’t beat the food, low prices, beauty, and the incredibly friendly people.

What's your biggest fear?
Living an ordinary life.

If you could be doing anything at all right now, what would it be?
Travleing!
