“One of the ways Trusted Traveler passholders verify their IDs is by using a fingerprint scanner. I was frustrated on a recent trip when my fingerprints wouldn’t register and I had to wait in the long line. The agent told me sometimes your prints won’t register if your hands are too clean! I’d used alcohol-based hand sanitizer after putting my carry-on luggage through security, and apparently there wasn’t enough oil on my hands for my prints to register. He suggested that next time I wait to clean my hands or rub my fingertips across my forehead to pick up some oil before using the scanner.”

I have been a Global Reentry member for 4 years and when I did my interview they were not able to get my fingerprints even though they had 5 different agents try. Naturally when I go to the reader I always get an X but I just go to the first available agent and show them my card and they process my right through. A bit of an inconvenience but sure is better than standing in line for an hour or so with the mob.
