Why some hotels won’t rent to localsI know many people like to get away without really getting away, sometimes by checking into a hotel on the other side of town. Well, a story titled “Florida Hotel Refuses Rooms to People Based on Where they Live” that recently caught my attention explains why some hotels won’t rent to locals. The reasoning makes enough sense to me: “Lawyers say some hotels won’t rent hotels to local residents to avoid crime, prostitution, drug activity, and hotel parties.”

To make sure you don’t run into any surprises on your next “staycation,” call the hotel(s) in advance to make sure they don’t have any policies about not allowing locals rooms.

I had to laugh when I saw the title of this article. When I was nineteen (many, many years ago) I was touring the UK on my own. Britrail pass in hand I went from London, through the country to Chester and into Wales. I would get off the train at an interesting spot and look for a B&B. Things went wonderfully until I arrived in Glasgow late at night. I headed out of the train station and walked all over the area…no space at the inn. Tired and not a little distressed, I returned to the rail station expecting to spend the night sleeping on a bench in the waiting room. A kindly cab driver saw me and offered to take me to a place where I could “kip” for the night. He explained that single women could not rent hotel rooms near the train station as they would be using them to entertain clients. Long story short…he took me to the residence of a local madam!! I had a somewhat noisy sleep, but I was safe and warm and she sent me off in the morning with a big breakfast and the address of a real B&B. (karyn from Pickering, Ontario ….Hi Nat!)

I had an email from a travel company selling flights. They are Skyluxtravel.com. There are mixed reviews on their website. I was wondering if you had heard of them and if you would recommend them. They are located in San Francisco. We are looking for flights to AMS and they had a good price.
