I know many people like to get away without really getting away, sometimes by checking into a hotel on the other side of town. Well, a story titled “Florida Hotel Refuses Rooms to People Based on Where they Live” that recently caught my attention explains why some hotels won’t rent to locals. The reasoning makes enough sense to me: “Lawyers say some hotels won’t rent hotels to local residents to avoid crime, prostitution, drug activity, and hotel parties.”
To make sure you don’t run into any surprises on your next “staycation,” call the hotel(s) in advance to make sure they don’t have any policies about not allowing locals rooms.
