100 cities collage

My good buddy Lee Abbamonte, who has been to every country in the world, recently created a fun activity for travelers. Lee created the graphic below and posted it on his Instagram account, Twitter handle and Facebook page. As you can see below, the graphic lists 100 major global cities and asks how many you’ve been to.

Lee tagged me on Twitter and I replied that I’ve been to 63 of the 100 cities, but a few of them only included time in airports so they don’t really count. Or do they? I’ve since circled the cities I’ve been to (below) in case you’re curious. BTW: Can you guess the three cities (of my 63) where I just changed planes or stopped to refuel? Here are some clues:

  • The first is the halfway point between a U.S. destination and a very popular destination in the Southern Hemisphere
  • The second one is also in the Southern Hemisphere and is a popular business traveler destination
  • The last is a major capital city

How many of the 100 cities have you been to?

And if you want to play along, I’ve included below the blank list that Lee made so you can grab it (by right-clicking or Control-clicking and saving the image). On your own device, you can then mark it up to indicate which of the cities you’ve been to and tweet it to us (I’m @JohnnyJet and he’s @LeeAbbamonte) and/or leave a comment below this post. Another game like this

Travel writer Max Hartshorne posted a similar game to his Facebook page. I counted 144 from his list! How many have you been to?

I have been to 39 of these cities but it didn’t hurt that I was a 35 year employee (now retired) with United Airlines. As well, high airline employee discounts on other airlines expedited much of my travel.

    Only 26
Capetown was my favorite, followed by Paris
Vienna and Sydney are on my bucket list

Fun. 56 cities. Cape Town was a favorite. Not sure post COVID.

We have visited 56 of these cities. We are looking forward to the day when the world is safe to explore.

Only counting the cities I have truly explored, then I have visited 61. I have spent time in the airports of a handful more. At this point I would happily go to any of the others! I had plans to be traveling now and definitely feel like my wings have been clipped. I’m so thankful I spent the past year-and-a-half exploring Central and South America. So many wonderful memories to draw on while I’m trapped in the U.S.

65 for me……but I’m OLD (85) and have been traveling since the 80’s and with many overseas volunteer trips got to some Strange, interesting place. Would like to do more in the Mid-East but doubt it. Just glad for all the interesting memories I have of the people and places I had the chance to visit , meet and stay with.

65 is incredible and 85 is like being 70 so it’s not old.

Only 16 :( I have a lot of travelling to do!

I’ve been to 42 and they were all good one way or the other. My husband and I have the rule that an airport doesn’t count. You have to leave the airport property for the city to count as visited!

    58, but I’ll keep trying.

64, plus 4 others that I have transited through but not stopped. I have an advantage as my dad worked for United and we did a lot of traveling when I was young. Also I work in the travel industry (which hopefully will still exist after the pandemic is over), so that has helped too. :-) Hard to pick a favorite, probably London or Auckland for various reasons. As for where to go post-pandemic, Casablanca and Perth are my top choices from this list.
