IHG Rewards Premier Credit Card

The IHG® Rewards Premier Credit Card is the more luxurious of the two consumer IHG credit cards.

Some of the positive changes include:

  • Earn 5x on travel, dining, and at gas stations (was 2x)
  • Earn 3x on non-bonus purchases (was 1x)
  • Can contribute points for the anniversary Reward Night (this perk still offsets your first 40,000 points for the reward night)
  • Receive a 60% bonus on qualifying nights (previously 50%)
  • Qualify for IHG Diamond Elite status (previously Spire Elite) after $40,000 in card purchases plus one more purchase in a calendar year
  • Earn 10,000 bonus points and a $100 statement credit after spending $20,000 and one additional purchase each year
  • Up to $50 United TravelBank Cash each year (after registering your IHG® Rewards Premier Credit Card with your MileagePlus® account)

This can be one of the best hotel credit cards.

Other card benefits include:

  • Platinum Elite status
  • Earning up to 26x on IHG purchases
  • 20% savings when buying IHG points
  • 4th Reward Night on 3+ night reward stays
  • Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS application fee credit.

Are you ready for the bad news? Sadly, the annual fee is now $99 (previously $0 for the first 12 months and then $89). Still, the fee is easily offset considering the Reward Nights and the Global Entry credit.

Existing card members will see the fee hike in 2023.

New cardmembers can earn a valuable credit card bonus of 140,000 IHG points after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months.

IHG Rewards Traveler Credit Card

The $0 annual fee IHG® Rewards Traveler Credit Card is accepting new applications again and is also offering one of its best signup bonus offers ever.

You can earn 120,000 bonus IHG points after spending $2,000 in the first 3 months.

Other benefits include:

  • Earn up to 17x on IHG purchases
  • 3x on dining, utilities, cable, internet, phone, cell, gas stations, and select streaming services
  • 2x on all remaining purchases
  • Earn 10,000 points after spending $10,000 and one additional purchase per year (New!)
  • Automatic IHG Silver Elite status (brand-new status tier)
  • Upgrade to IHG Gold Elite after $20,000 in spending and 1 more purchase each year
  • 4th Reward Night on 3+ night reward stays

This card doesn’t have any free anniversary night benefits but it’s an effortless (and free) way for casual travelers to prevent their IHG points from expiring.

There are also no foreign transaction fees to worry about.

Other IHG Loyalty Program Changes

In addition to these IHG credit card changes, there are a few changes to the IHG loyalty tier levels and benefits.

One of the most notable is the addition of the Silver Elite tier as the first elite status tier. The Spire Elite tier is becoming Diamond Elite.

While the credit card changes went into effect on March 24, 2022,, these loyalty program changes go live the week of April 11, 2022.

These are some of the best travel credit cards.

Summary

These changes can add more value to the IHG credit cards and hotel credit cards in general. You have your pick of consumer and business rewards cards to enjoy award programs at the various mid-tier and luxury hotel brands.
