It’s happened again and it seems like it’s becoming a much more common occurrence. On a recent Spirit Airlines flight, a family of four, flying from Orlando to Atlantic City, was told to disembark because their two-year-old daughter was not wearing a face mask. (These KN95 masks for kids can help on flights but we’ll get to that in a minute.) In videos that have gone viral, you can get a sense of what happened. See below:

According to Spirit Airlines’ face mask policy, children under the age of two do not have to wear a mask. But Spirit Airlines is disputing that the family was deplaned because of the two-year-old child. According to an article in Newsweek, “A spokesperson for the airline told Newsweek that on two separate occasions prior to departure, the parents were not wearing their masks correctly, which was why they were asked by cabin crew to disembark. The spokesperson said while the video makes it seem like the family was being asked to leave because of the child, the decision was made in response to the parents’ actions.”

As you can see in the video above, the father keeps pulling his mask down when he speaks (isn’t that precisely the time when you should keep your mask on?) so maybe this whole incident had nothing to do with the child.

As Johnny and I get our vaccinations (you can read about Johnny’s experience getting vaccinated here), the thought of being able to travel, especially to visit family, is exciting. But traveling with kids? Stories like this definitely make me nervous. Our four-year-old son used to struggle with his mask, just for short periods around our neighborhood but we recently found a solution that gives me hope for longer airplane rides.

WellBefore sent us a selection of KN95 masks made specifically for kids and they have made a huge difference for our son. The masks offer five layers of protection and have adjustable ear loops to help you get the perfect fit. But best of all, unlike regular fabric masks, the shape of a KN95 mask keeps it slightly elevated off your face, making it much easier to breathe. It feels less restrictive and intrusive, which is why our son now wears his without issue for longer stretches of time. They are individually wrapped, which makes them perfect for travel. Just throw them in your bag and go. If you’ve got kids or grandkids, nieces or nephews or know any parents who are struggling to get their kids to mask-up, try these – they could make a huge difference to your travels. They will also be launching KN95 face masks for children under five so stay tuned about that.

I’m also a big fan of their adult KN95 masks, which, like the kids masks, offer five layers of protection and come in both regular size and small, so you can get a better fit. I find KN95 masks the most comfortable to wear as they make it the easiest to breathe.
