Know how long your visa is good forEach Friday, we feature a reader-submitted tip as our Travel Tip of the Day. This week’s tip come from reader Lise L., who says:

“Check your visa stamp when going through immigration arrivals. On a recent trip to Namibia I correctly filled out the arrival form stating the number of days I would be staying in the country. I didn’t bother to look at it after flying for 25 hours. When I tried to leave the country the immigration officer pulled me out of line, chastised me, and threatened me with detention and possible prison time for breaking the law. With visions of the movie Midnight Express, I saw that the stamp I got coming in to the county only allowed me to stay for a week, not the 15 days I’d declared. It took quite a bit to convince the officer that she should let me get on the plane (which was ready to depart at this point). As a seasoned traveler, it never occurred to me to check the stamp.”

Thanks, Lise. And on a related note:
