How to avoid the long lines at FAO Schwarz in Rockefeller CenterIf you haven’t heard, New York’s iconic toy store FAO Schwarz has reopened its doors after closing for three years. The Fifth Avenue store is gone but has been replaced by a new, 2.5-story, 20,000 square-foot space in Rockefeller Center. It’s located directly across from the TODAY set and behind the Rockefeller Christmas tree.

The good news is that the store opened just in time for the holidays. The bad news is that the lines to get in are insane. The first day, the wait was over two hours, and when we went on its third day open, the line was still snaked around the corner. There was no way that I was waiting in a long line for a toy store, so I told my wife that we should go back the next day when the store opened at 9am.

So the next morning, we showed up at 9:08am. The line was snaked around the corner but it was moving because the team had just opened the store doors and was letting everyone in. We waited a total of two minutes! It was a fantastic experience and I’m happy to report that the giant piano keyboard that was featured in the 1988 film Big is back (see below).
