Ever wonder what would happen if you forgot the code you set to the hotel safe? Well, most hotels either have a master code or a key for when that happens. The problem, though, is that most hotel employees have access to the code/key and can easily gain entry to your hotel room. And as explained in the short video below (from LockPickingLawyer), the default override code is often not changed by the hotel. If that worries you (and that would be understandable), before placing your valuables in a hotel safe, you should test it out first. Create a password, lock it and then try 999999 (at least on Saflok safes, which are common) to see if it opens. If it does, you probably don’t want to use it.

And another tip about hotel safes. If you get a delay in the display or a “low battery” reading, let the hotel know immediately. I got that reading after I locked the safe and the next morning when I tried to open it so I could check out of the hotel, it wouldn’t open. The hotel security and maintenance staff had to work on it for over two hours. They finally removed the safe in its entirety and used a crowbar to pry it open. Fortunately I was still able to get to the airport on time.

The Safeplace Safe Box here In my room was working just fine when we first got here… on the 4th day, that morning, went to get in it, and it appeared to have ‘lost power’ as if got unplugged or dead batteries… However half an hour later we tried again, for $#!ts n giggles before heading to office for help.. amazingly there was power again.. well, all lights and sounds showed when buttons pushed BUT…. Our code that we had entered prior to this ‘power outtage’ was not opening the door. And neither was the ‘0000’ that I used when first arrived because the safe was shut and locked. I was just messing around with it then, and it popped and swung open when entered all zeros.. so figured this would work again… NOT the case.
This time, and now, presently, as I type, when ANY combo is entered it displays ‘code’ and then when enter any other after that it displays ‘err4’ ..?? Have not a clue as to how we are going to retrieve our valuable belongings within this safe when we are due to check out tomorrow morning.. Have gone down to office and asked them, and to our surprise.. THEY KNOW NOT A DAM THING ABOUT IT EITHER.. THEY ARE JUST AS IN THE DARK AS WE ARE… DOES ANY.. ANYONE KNOW OR HAVE A/ANY SUGGESTION(S) AS TO HOW WE ARE TO ACCESS THIS DEVICE..OR WHAT ‘ERR4’ MEANS?? SOMEONE.. ANYONE PLEASE HELP!!??

We always checking in a hotel for a month every country we’re leaving. This article gave us tips and ideas about hotel safe. My husband once told me that he dont trust every hotel safe because of the experience we had before.

Is there anyway to bypass the AP or a way to reset the AP my hotel changed the AP

    1. Johnny Jet|

No idea what that even means

You don’t even need to enter a code. Just drop the safe onto a bed and twist the lick as it bounces on the bed.

You should probably refrain from replying to anything on the internet when you’ve been drinking.

Hey Johnny, Thanks for the info about hotel safe override codes. Would be great to be able to change that default code so hotel staff would not be able to access your belongings. Is there a common way that can be done??

    1. Johnny Jet|

      I don’t think so
