MTA appIf you’ve spent any time in New York City, you probably know that Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road trains connect the city to the area surrounding it. You may already know about the associated MTA app, but if not, here’s the deal:

MTA eTix lets you buy tickets for Metro-North and LIRR trains right from your phone. You add a debit or credit card, select a train (including the stops you’ll get on and off at) and click purchase. No more waiting in lines at the kiosks. You can even buy tickets and store them for later use in your ticket wallet. You simply need to activate a ticket before the ticket agent comes around asking for your ticket. From the time you activate the ticket, you have two hours to show it to an agent (they usually come to you while you’re en route) before it expires.

MTA eTix is available for free for iOS and Android.
