Each Friday, we feature a reader-submitted tip as our Travel Tip of the Day. This week’s tip comes from reader Marilyn B., who left the following comment on yesterday’s tip on hotel cancellations:
“If the hotel does not have day of arrival cancellation, I may book multiple night stays individually. I do the same on award hotel bookings. That way I have flexibility in my travel plans and if I have to cancel a night, it doesn’t affect the other nights, which can be especially important on award stays. And if there is a longer cancellation period, the subsequent nights will hopefully fall outside it, too—just need to be very aware if the cancellation period is 72 hours and you are cancelling last minute. Mostly I have found 24-48 hours to be the case. But some resorts can be up to 2 weeks! Best advice—check the cancellation terms and decide on your best booking options.”
As Marilyn says, you need to know the cancellation terms before you do this—but it’s a good tip. I do something similar with flight reservations with AA. Thanks!

WOW! Thanks for the HT. I’ve been following your blog since the early days of the internet (the mid-90’s or just around then). Yours was the first blog I started following. I remember when it was mostly all text – black, blue, red and some yellow. Maybe it was just a newsletter back then, but I was a subscriber. Guess we have both come a long way!
