When it comes to credit card perks, some stand out more than others. Most card users talk about the most notable features including a big sign-on bonus, travel credits, and easy-to-earn points. Many cards, especially travel credit cards, offer additional perks that often go overlooked.

7 Tips for Making Airport Travel Easier; overlooked travel credit card
Carry-on luggage is often cheaper and easier to travel with than checked luggage.

You may be missing out on some other ways to save money and improve your travel experiences. Today we’ll share with you some of the most overlooked travel credit card perks. Don’t let your credit card benefits go to waste!

Fee Credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry

Some travel credit cards, such as the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, will reimburse you for your TSA PreCheck or Global Entry application fee. That’s a great way to save big, as the TSA PreCheck application fee is $85 and the Global Entry application fee is $100. Take advantage of this opportunity and (hopefully) make your airport experiences a lot less stressful.

Hint: Get Global Entry if you travel internationally, as it will work for TSA PreCheck, too.

Baggage Delay Insurance

Traveling often comes with unexpected twists and turns. If you ever find yourself dealing with a baggage delay due to a misdirected or lost bag, you may be lucky enough to have a card that includes baggage delay insurance. Many travel credit cards offer this perk. They often come with lost, damaged, or stolen bag insurance as well. With this protection in place, you can still enjoy your trip and get the essential items that you need.

No Foreign Transaction Fees

If you haven’t had to travel internationally often, you may forget about this card perk. Some of the best travel credit cards don’t charge foreign transaction fees. You’ll be able to easily use your card when you’re out of your home country with no additional charges.

The typical charge is around 3% for most other credit cards. That’s an extra $60 charged for a $2,000 international trip. If you may be traveling abroad soon, make sure that you bring a card with zero foreign transaction fees. You may already have a card with this perk!

Emergency Medical and Dental Benefits

The last thing you want to deal while you’re away from home is a health issue. The first thing that may pop into your mind when dealing with a medical problem in another city, state, or country is whether you’ll be able to afford the cost. With the right card, it will be no issue.

Travel credit cards with this coverage may pay for the cost of medical care, drugs, and medical supplies, and even a portion of your hotel stay expenses if you’re unable to travel home right away. Hopefully, you never need this coverage, but it’s nice to have.

Free WiFi

When you’re on the go, having wifi access is essential. If you do a good bit of plane travel, you may want to look at your travel credit card and see if in-air wifi is one of the included perks. Be sure to look at what airlines accept the wifi that is offered and consider if you tend to be airline loyal when flying. This benefit often goes unnoticed and can save you a lot of money if you like to keep plugged in at all times.

Rental Car Benefits

Another perk that often goes unnoticed is rental car insurance benefits. The coverage may vary, depending on the card that you have, but will often include coverage for both vehicle damage and theft. It can be stressful to be involved in a severe accident while traveling. This can give you extra peace of mind as you go about your plans. There are usually set rules and restrictions in place, so be sure to read your benefit terms.

Overlooked Travel Credit Card Perks Summary

These are some of the most common overlooked travel credit card perks. Sure, you may use some other credit card benefits a lot more, but these benefits can be a great way to save money and have less anxiety while away from home. Make sure you review all of your travel credit card benefits to ensure that you’re getting the most out of each card that you own.
