When we first started traveling with Jack, one of my friends gave me a valuable tip: Buy dog wee mats or disposable baby change pads and pack them for times when you need to change your baby’s diaper on the fly. The change tables on airplanes, trains and public bathrooms, of course, are filthy. With the dog mats, you won’t have to get your own traveling change pad germy, and they’re so compact that they’re easy to pack and throw away.

That is a great idea! Another idea: if you want to be really light, cut a baby-sized square from a plastic table cloth and use that as your small changing pad, cleaning it yourself as needed. Packs super-small for carry-on only travel, leaving more room for necessities like Cheerios!
