Before we had kids, my husband Johnny and I jetted around the globe, visiting upwards of 10 countries a year and always with carry-on only. We were seasoned travelers, efficient packers and, for the most part, had our travel routine down to a science. RELATED: Why Packing Cubes Are a Travel Essential

Enter our son in the fall of 2016 and all of that changed (in the best way possible, of course!) And now, we have a beautiful daughter, who is always up for an adventure.

Traveling with young children is always challenging. But traveling in a post-pandemic world? It’s different and the way I prepare and pack for it is different, too. Keeping our kids healthy and safe is our top priority as we head to airports and board airplanes. We are armed with all the new necessities: face masks, hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes. And thanks to an awesome new product I recently learned about, I’ve got something else to add to my travel safety arsenal: Potty Shields.

Ask any parent and I’m sure they’ll tell you that taking kids to a public bathroom is an unpleasant and stressful experience. I can recall countless instances in restaurant and airport bathrooms when I just couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Meanwhile, my son is chatting away, casually touching everything around him, maybe touching his mouth and rubbing his eyes for good measure, while I’m just trying not to freak out. Public bathrooms Are. The. Worst.

Potty Shields to the rescue. These handy little toilet seat covers come individually wrapped and they’re super light and compact so they’re easy to stash in your bag for those trips to the public toilets. I know many public bathrooms have toilet seat covers but let’s face it, they’re not that great. I hate having to stand there and rip out the middle bit but then inevitably, rip the whole seat cover. Then, you have to position it just so, so it doesn’t move or fall into the toilet or leave any part of the seat exposed. Ugh. They’re bad enough for adult use but try putting a squirmy kid on there. That flimsy toilet seat cover doesn’t stand a chance.

Potty Shields are superior for a number of reasons. They’re extra-long so they cover not only the toilet seat but the rest of the bowl so that your child’s legs won’t touch any of the toilet’s surface. Because they’re extra-long, they’ll stay put but they also have adhesive strips on them, to ensure that they really don’t move. And they have a waterproof liner so they won’t soak through.

These are hands-down a travel must-have for me and I will not go anywhere without them. Because they’re individually wrapped, it’s so easy to throw them in your purse, bag or backpack, or to keep a few in the car for any unexpected stops to go potty. I basically keep these on hand for any outing – whether it’s a quick trip to the grocery store or a day-long excursion to the zoo. We actually just returned from a day at the Los Angeles Zoo and I can’t tell you how happy I was to have these on hand for my kids to use the bathroom.

Potty Shields come in different colors and patterns and they’re also big enough for adult use so you can feel better about using public bathrooms as well. Buy Potty Shields here on Amazon.
