reader-travel-tip2Set Up Bank Alerts Before a Trip
Each Friday, we feature a reader-submitted tip as our Travel Tip of the Day. This week’s tip comes from reader Dan K., who adds to a past tip on fraudulent bank activity, saying:

“Every bank and credit card company allows you to send a daily ‘notification’ by text or email of your balance or any foreign transactions. This way you can be aware of any fraudulent activity from the cards you have with you or even the ones you have left at home. Every US bank permits collect calls in case you notice anything suspicious. Waiting until you get home to check your accounts is a foolish and unnecessary recommendation.”

I agree: The more precautions you can take against fraud, the better. Thanks, Dan!

You need to notify the bank even if you’re traveling in the US – none of our CA credit cards worked when we shopped in NYC. Fortunately Macy’s was busy while we frantically tried to notify credit card companies to complete our transaction. We thought notification was only for overseas travel.

Johnny – do you have any comments on the private jet, around the world tours (Nat Geo, Smithsonian)? I am considering going on one after I retire. Thanks
