Editor’s Note: The new Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ Credit Card has replaced the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card. You can read more about the new cards here.
The Marriott Premier Plus free night award is a benefit that is more valuable than the $95 annual fee. With every card anniversary year, you’ll get one free hotel night! While this free night award is valid at almost any Marriott Rewards property, you might consider checking out these spots first. If you’re a new cardmember, you can earn 2 Free Night Awards (each valued up to 35,000 points) after spending $3,000 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening with the new Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card.
In addition to the free night award, you can also earn 6x Marriott Rewards points per $1 spent on all Marriott and SPG purchases and 2x points on all remaining purchases. You’ll also enjoy automatic Silver Elite Status that lets you enjoy a 10% point bonus, 5th night free on 5+ night award stays, and priority late checkout.
How Does the Marriott Premier Plus Free Night Award Work?
Each year you renew your Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card, you will get a free night award valid at any hotel that costs 35,000 points or less. Beginning in August 2018, Marriott Rewards Category 5 hotels will require 35,000 points per night. At that time, Starwood Preferred Guest properties will also begin integrating into the Marriott Rewards portfolio and a new program will launch in 2019.
So, your Marriott Premier Plus free night award will be valid for any property that costs 35,000 points or less.
Because we don’t know exactly which categories the SPG properties will land in yet, this list will only focus on existing Marriott Rewards properties until the Marriott and SPG merger finalizes.
Use Your Free Night Award At These Locations
When you redeem your free night award, make sure the nightly rate is at least $95. Since most Marriott properties cost more than $100 per night, this isn’t usually a problem. You will usually find the highest return on investment in major metro areas and the higher category hotels.
AC Hotel National Harbor Washington, DC
The AC Hotel National Harbor is part of the recent revitalization project for the National Harbor in Washington, D.C. Although there are plenty of fine places to stay in the D.C. area, this boutique hotel puts you right at the National Harbor with stellar hotel room views.
You’ll also have access to an on-site gym, continental breakfast, and complimentary shuttle service to the MGM National Harbor Casino.
Renaissance Sao Paulo Hotel
If you’ve never been to Brazil, the Renaissance Sao Paulo Hotel is a luxury hotel in downtown Sao Paulo. This upscale property has luxurious bedding, on-site spa, and an entire fitness-focused floor called the ZenZone. With its convenient downtown location, you can visit the iconic Avenida Paulista, Ibirapuera Park, and the Anhembi Convention Center.
Courtyard Middlebury, VT
The Courtyard Middlebury prides itself on the most unique Marriott property in Vermont with a wraparound porch and classic New England design. Despite its “quaint” appearance, the Courtyard Middlebury opened in 2003.
Obviously, the prime time to visit New England is to view the fall colors, but you can feel at home at this Courtyard at any time of the year. In addition to a prime location in central Vermont, you can also relax with the on-site swimming pool and fitness center.
JW Marriott Hotel Quito
If you’re headed to Quito, Ecuador, look at the JW Marriott Hotel Quito. Although there are plenty of sites to see in Quito, the JW Mariott can also serve as your base camp when you want to visit the Galapagos Islands which is a 90-minute flight away.
You can also enjoy their on-site Zumay Health Club which is a spa and fitness center. There’s also a resort-style outdoor pool you can enjoy too. When you’re ready to rest, try dining at one of the four on-site restaurants and having a room that overlooks the city of Quito.
The Hague Marriott Hotel
Located in the city center of The Hague, Netherlands, The Hague Marriott Hotel is located next to the World Forum and Europol. Whether you’re here for business, leisure, or a little of both, this one of the best Marriott properties you can stay at. There is ample workspace, an on-site restaurant, and bar, plus an electric car charging station if you need it.
Courtyard Pittsburgh Downtown
With the Courtyard Pittsburgh Downtown, you’re located in the Cultural District and near the PPG Sports Arena, Heinz Field, and Strip District. Even though you’ll be visiting “Steel Town” in a building composed of four historic buildings, you can also enjoy European elegance, pillow-top mattresses, and vaulted 12 foot or 17 foot ceilings too!
Courtyard Gulfport Beachfront
Have you been wanting to visit the Gulf Shores? With the Courtyard Gulfport Beachfront, you only have to cross the street to touch the white sand or watch the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico. There’s also an on-site saltwater pool and fitness center. Because you’re also near the Gulfport city center, you can also take in a game at the MGM baseball stadium too.
Hotel Palacio del Carmen, Autograph Collection
Northern Spain is a different experience from the sunny beaches and arid landscapes that you see in southern Spain, but it’s an equally enjoyable experience. Santiago de la Compostela is a popular destination for its historic cathedral and the Camino de Santiago trail. When you stay at the Hotel Palacio del Carmen, you’re in the heart of the historic district.
This hotel once served as the Oblatas Convent. You can relax in the outdoor gardens with views of the Cathedral of Santiago de la Compostela. There’s also an indoor swimming pool and fitness center too.
TownePlace Suites Anaheim Maingate Near Angel Stadium
If you’re planning a family vacation to Disneyland, the TownePlace Suites Anaheim Maingate gives you free breakfast and shuttle service to Disneyland. You’ll also get a fully-equipped kitchen that can help your family relax at the property so you can spend more time in the on-site swimming pool. There are also two on-site exercise facilities that you can use too.
