When getting a rental car in Europe, consider a smaller car

Each Friday, we feature a reader-submitted tip as our Travel Tip of the Day. This week’s tip comes from reader Dan B., who adds to a week of rental car tips and specifically Tuesday’s tip about searching for rental cars of all sizes, saying:

“In Europe smaller is better for parking. Getting a large American size car may be a big disadvantage!”

A great tip for anyone booking a rental car in Europe. Thanks, Dan!

Just be aware of availability issues in smaller locations. I reserved a “Fiat Punto or similar” at Forli Airport and got a Peugeot 5008. Even parking in the hotel garage was difficult, let alone driving through some of the towns.

I remember working in Naples Italy where we had to lift the Fiat 500 off the street onto the sidewalk at night.

I just spent five days (April 2019) in Barcelona with a rental car. Didn’t find a parking place the entire five days!
    Rental car was a waste.
