Be extra vigilant when renting a car in an unfamiliar place

Each Friday, we feature a reader-submitted tip as our Travel Tip of the Day. This week’s tip comes from reader Ray C., who builds on another reader tip about renting a car—and last week’s, too:

“Off the mainland it pays to check the whole car over. One late night in the rain in Puerto Rico it took me three cars before I deemed one safe enough to head out in. One had bald tires, one had a horrible shimmy & squeaky brakes. This was one of the top rental companies I might add.”

Thanks, Ray!
