Like most people, I try to eat healthy and make sure that my kids do, too. That means squeezing in veggies wherever possible and for me, the quickest and easiest way to do that is with smoothies. They’re delicious, filling and pack a nutritional punch. I love them, my kids love them, win-win!

I especially like to gulp down a smoothie before I head to the airport. I always find that food options can be limited or challenging to find on travel days so I like the entire family to leave the house with a full stomach.

My favorite smoothie is a chocolate peanut butter smoothie, which is delicious and easy to make. Here’s what I throw in a blender to make one smoothie:

-one frozen banana
-one cup of almond milk
-two tablespoons of peanut butter
-one scoop of chocolate protein powder
-four cups of spinach

You can adjust all the measurements based on your personal preferences but this is the general idea. I sometimes swap out the high calorie peanut butter for a peanut butter powder like PB Fit.

Here’s another smoothie combo the whole family likes:
-one frozen banana
-four slices fresh pineapple
-one cup pineapple juice
-four cups of spinach

Again, you can tweak the ingredient amounts to suit your tastebuds. If I don’t have fresh pineapple on hand, I’ll sometimes use frozen pineapple chunks from Trader Joe’s.

Besides having the right ingredients on hand, you’ll need a good blender to whip them into something tasty and delicious. As a self-confessed design junkie, I’d originally bought a retro Smeg blender because it just looked so dang good on my kitchen counter. It wasn’t cheap but I thought that for the price, it would be a wise investment and durable enough to stand up to my daily smoothie-making habit. Wrong. I had so many problems with it that in the end, it just wasn’t worth it. I should have just gone with a trusted Vitamix in the first place, which has no trouble standing up to daily use or easily blending frozen bananas into a creamy smoothie.

If you’re looking for a sturdy, reliable blender for whipping up everything from soups to smoothies, check out Vitamix, especially now for Vitamix Days. This 48-hour sale only happens once a year and offers shoppers 40% off of popular blenders, machines and containers. Shop the sale here.

I love smoothies, but I never tried theme just before travelling, great tip to try in the future to know how it feels.

We drink the same PB&B shake every day, nearly the same recipe:
1 tbsp PB Fit peanut butter powder
    1 scoop vanilla whey protein
1 tbsp unsweetened bakers chocolate powder
    one banana
    almond milk
    ice

    Sometimes we add spinach.

Other difference is we use a Blendtec (as good as Vitamix and usually a bit cheaper.)
