Why you should think twice before flying Allegiant AirI’ve been telling my friends and family for a while not to fly Allegiant Air, ever since an insider told me about their sketchy maintenance. But I had no idea it was this bad. Steve Kroft and 60 Minutes investigated the airline in a segment that aired on Sunday, and I bet it’ll make you hesitant to fly them, as well. You can watch the video below if you’re in the United States or have a VPN. Otherwise, you can read the transcript here.

Allegiant Air’s response to the story is included here. I think it’s fair to give them another look if they make changes and depending on what follows the 60 Minutes segment. For now, however, you should know the concerns.

Maybe Southwest isn’t a good choice at this time.

I’ve flown on them at least 20 times now with no issues. They do seem to be taking steps in the right direction and get steadily better. It’s a far more pleasant experience than Spirit’s as well, but with similar prices. Let’s not forget that the ONE U.S. commercial airline fatality in the past year was on Southwest—an airline with a great reputation. Now they’ll show up as having the “worst record” among U.S. airlines for safety because of this accident.
