If you want to see some incredible travel photos, possibly the best we’ve ever featured, then check out Frans Lanting on Instagram. It’s no wonder he’s a National Geographic photographer. He was born in the Netherlands and earned a master’s degree in economics before moving to the United States to study environmental planning. Soon after, he began photographing the natural world—and never turned back. Today he makes his home in Santa Cruz, California, with his wife and partner, Chris Eckstrom, an editor, videographer and former staff writer at National Geographic with whom he collaborates on fieldwork and publishing projects.

@FransLanting “The Ivory Game” I’m on my way to the Southern Ocean and we’ll share more about the amazing wildlife we’ll encounter there, but today we want to draw your attention to an important new documentary that is available to view now on Netflix. “ The Ivory Game,” produced by @LeonardoDiCaprio, is a hard-hitting exposé that goes inside the illegal ivory trade to put Africa’s elephant poaching crisis back on the global agenda. Right now, the fate of Africa’s elephants depends too much on the efforts of courageous individuals and small embattled groups scattered across the globe. They can’t do it without more support. We all have to raise our voices and get engaged. Organizations that support the elephant cause in a big way include the World Wildlife Fund, Wild Aid, and Save The Elephants. Please check their websites, check out the DiCaprio film and spread the word. I made this elephant image in Botswana, which is one of the few countries in the world where elephants have found a safe haven and are doing well, thanks to the leadership of the Botswana government. Stay tuned for more images and stories from us. @natgeo @natgeotravel @natgeocreative @thephotosociety @LeonardoDiCaprio #TheIvoryGame #Elephants #Botswana #PoachingCrisis #Ivory #SaveTheElephants #wild_net #WorldWildlife #WildAid
