On the recommendation of my colleague Gary Leff, I now carry a Monster MP OTG400 BK Outlets To Go Power Strip. Why? Hotels, airports and especially cruises often only have one or two outlets, and that’s just not enough to charge all of my devices. And if my wife is with me, “Fuhgeddaboudit,” since she always has three devices (iPhone, iPad and computer) going at once. This travel power strip only costs $11 on Amazon, has 4 AC outlets and is ultra-compact so it can fit into luggage and briefcases (dimensions: 6.25″ x 2.25″ x 1.8″).

I was looking at these but as you say, many devices now are ones like ipads and phones which are charged via USB port. Rather than have to carry all of the plugs for those I prefer a power strip with USB charging ports. Of all the tech that I travel with (and it’s a lot) only my laptop needs an actual plug. The rest all all USB and not carrying their plugs (just cords) saves close to a half pound of luggage weight. :)

Have you used this or the Belkin overseas? I’ve never thought about needing so many outlets until I was in Dublin last month and could only charge one thing at a time because I didn’t have multiple adapters. It seems that many of these strips aren’t rated for 220V found in Europe, but I also can’t find something that would work in Europe.
