BackpackBackpack Safety
If you travel with a backpack, be sure to take it off and carry it when boarding a plane—or walking in a store. This way, you won’t knock items over or hit someone by accident. Remember that in most places, if you break it, you buy it.

P.S. This specific backpack is from my Scenic Tours European River cruise.

KUDOS Johnny Jet!! Although backpacks are great tools many wear them like weapons and I have been victim to their assault. Nothing worse than getting clobbered while sitting in the aisle seat and wise no acknowledgement or apology. Really tends to give “backpackers” a really bad rap!

Thank you Johnny! I hate when people with a backpack board the plane, if someone is already sitting down they take the chance to hit by one of this backpack!

I’d also buy a small wire pad lock to secure it to a permanent fixture. While not secure against bolt cutters it will make it harder to grab when you are not looking. When was the last time you saw a thief with bolt cutters.

I always carry a large backback purse on travel and I couldn’t imagine traveling without it, for obvious reasons. However, when I am on trains, subways, narrow streets, or areas where there are crowds, I turn it around and have it rest on my front with my arms crossed over it. It would be pretty difficult to yank it from me in that position, and I have never had a problem with theft in my many years of travel. And I still have the benefit of carrying the weight of a purse on my shoulders, and not on one side, causing back problems after a while!

I’ve been whacked by these travelers in all situations and I dread the sight of them on planes, trains, busses, museums, or wherever they show up.
