Drive to Saratoga Springs

Bring a Car Charger
Yesterday’s tip was about taking a screenshot of your directions on your smartphone. Another tip I picked up on that same Saratoga Springs roadtrip: Always bring a USB car charger/adapter so that the map apps (like Waze) don’t run your battery dead. At our first rest stop, I was shocked by how much battery Waze had used on my phone, and then I was really bummed when my buddy Mike told me he didn’t have a charger in his car. The first thing I did when we got to the hotel room was log on to Amazon.com and buy him a dual-port USB car charger adapter for $5. Go prepared. You never want to get stuck on the road with a dead phone.

Never leave on a trip without a car charger. It’s the only way to go. I use Waze too and yes you’re right it runs down the battery real quick.

In addition to the car charge, its important to have a charging cable, not just a USB cable. I was taking a road trip from the east coast to the midwest, using it for GPS, maybe a little music (not bluetooth), and at the 8-9 hour mark, my battery was empty.

The phone always showed charging but it was a trickle charge. I bought these fast charging cables, and just never had these problems again. Charges quicker at home too.
