Bring a Poncho
Whenever I travel, I pack an umbrella and a poncho. The latter takes up no room and usually costs $1 but can really save you if you get caught in a nasty rainstorm or (want to stay dryish on a log ride at an amusement park). My dad discovered how handy they are when we were in Austria a few weeks ago. When it started raining, he asked what to do about his hearing aids, which he needed to stay dry. When I whipped out the poncho he looked at me like I was MacGyver—and later said, “Ponchos are so much better than umbrellas!”

FYI: I wore the poncho above in the Cook Islands a few years ago.

Poncho’s are better than umbrellas because you can put one in your pocket. My umbrellas is always in the hotel room when It rains.
