Palazzo Manfredi Hotel Rome Italy May 2014-017_editedDon’t Go to European Restaurants Hungry
I just returned home from Europe (story on my Windstar cruise here) and I picked up a number of valuable new Europe-themed tips traveling with my dad. One of them is this: If you’re starving, you probably don’t want to go to a restaurant for a quick fix.

In many European countries (excluding some tourist areas), going out to dinner is almost an event. Waiters don’t come right away, and chefs take their time making the food. The nice part about this is they don’t rush you to try to turn the table over too quickly. The bad news is that if you’re hungry like my dad was the other day, you might feel like you’re going to pass out as you wait to be served. So the moral of this story is don’t go to European restaurants really hungry. Instead, carry some fruit or a granola bar for a quick snack and then sit down at a table when you’re ready (and able to wait) for a meal.
