Bora BoraKeep Insects in the Dark
If you’re staying in the tropics, don’t leave the lights on inside your room at night when you’re not there—especially if the windows are open and there are no screens. I did that once in Fiji and had to learn the hard way what a bad idea it was. When I returned from dinner, my room was filled with insects. Not fun!

I was pretty worried about this when we go to Bali, as we’ll be staying in a rustic accommodation and I don’t think we’ll have a ton of power to keep insects out of our room. I’m not used to big, gross tropical bugs and I have heard some horror stories. Thanks for the tip.

      Hi Daisy,
I agree – I hate big bugs!! But you’ll be happy to know that we didn’t encounter a lot in Bali – although we were vigilant about keeping the windows and doors closed, especially at night, so they wouldn’t be attracted to the light. We did see lots of frogs on our windows at night – but never inside the room! Have a great time in Bali – it’s beautiful!
