Travel Website of the Week: MarineTraffic.com

MTLast week I was on Viking Cruises’ new ocean liner, Viking Star. It’s a lovely ship (you can read about it here), but one of the things it lacked was a GPS-powered map on the TV displaying exactly where it was (some cruise lines offer it). So, out of curiosity, I started searching websites trying to find our ship’s location and presto: I came across a doozy! MarineTraffic.com allows you to locate for any vessel, port, marina…you name it. You can filter the map so it doesn’t display cargo ships, fishing boats, tugs, tankers, etc.—and once you find your ship, you can zoom in/out and share it with your loved ones so they know exactly where you are. Pretty cool!
