Today is Giving Tuesday. If there is a silver lining to 2020, I think it’s the constant reminder not to take things for granted. Before the pandemic, not many of us could have imagined that the world’s economy would come to a grinding halt and that doing simple things, like going to dinner or a sporting event, would become off-limits.

Turn on the news these days and it’s difficult not to feel your heart breaking. All over the country, there are people lining up for hours to get food. According to NPR, the coronavirus pandemic has only worsened the problem of food insecurity in America. “According to one estimate by researchers at Northwestern University, food insecurity more than doubled as a result of the economic crisis brought on by the outbreak, hitting as many as 23% of households earlier this year.” It’s mind-boggling that so many people in our country are going hungry.

If you have the means, there are a lot of places you can donate including using your miles and points. I donated last night to St. Jude’s but there are hundreds of other charities to choose from and if I had the means, I would give to them all. Below, I’ve listed a selection of charities and organizations that you can donate to on Giving Tuesday but you can also search for local organizations in your own communities to help even closer to home. To learn more about Giving Tuesday and how you can get involved,, visit hq.givingtuesday.org.
