American Airlines recently announced a fantastic new baggage service – I will be surprised if other airlines don’t follow suit. Of course, it comes with an extra fee but this one is clever and I applaud it. American partnered with BAGS VIP Luggage Delivery and they will deliver your luggage to a home, office or hotel. That means if you want to save time (and possibly money because it’s difficult to schlep large/heavy bags on public transportation) you just drop off your luggage at the airport ticket counter and you can skip the baggage carousel.
The new service is offered at around 200 airports across the U.S. and it costs $29.95 for one bag, $39.95 for two bags and $49.95 for three to 10 bags. The fee includes delivery to a location within 40 miles of the destination airport and takes one to four hours for delivery. Bags delivered between 41 and 100 miles from the airport will be an additional $1 per mile charge and an estimated delivery time between four and six hours. You can buy this service on AA.com – or up to two hours prior to departure by clicking on “View Itinerary”.
