With the end of the year looming, it’s full-on status-match season. The Southwest status-match that we wrote about here, for example, is still available and will be through December 31. And WestJet, which is Canada’s second-largest airline (and is now partnered with Delta), is offering its own through December 15.
Through this WestJet status-match, if you currently have similar status with American Airlines AAdvantage (see the ridiculous original offer AA gave me to re-up my Platinum status here), Air Canada Altitude, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, British Airways Executive Club, United MileagePlus, or VIPorter, you can get WestJet Rewards Silver or Gold elite status through March 31, 2020. WestJet Silver status includes two free checked bags per flight, vouchers for airport lounge access, Zone 2 boarding, priority check-in, and complimentary upgrades. WestJet Gold status, meanwhile, includes the same plus unlimited lounge access, Zone 1 boarding, and no-fee same-day flight changes.
Here’s the promotion’s homepage, where you can see more details and register. The initial offer grants status through March 31, 2020, but you’ll need to take just one qualifying flight (see the promotion page) to extend your new status until June 30, 2020. In addition, status can be extended another full year to June 30, 2021, if a minimum spend is hit before June 30, 2020 ($3,000 for Gold, $1,500 for Silver).
How to take advantage of this WestJet status-match
It’s all on this page, but in short, here’s how to take advantage of this WestJet status-match from TPG’s reporting:
- Join WestJet Rewards at westjet.com/rewards if you don’t already have an account
- Complete the form on WestJet’s status-match page including your name, WestJet Rewards number, email, and phone number on your WestJet Rewards account
- Include a scanned copy or photo of your elite status membership card with current 2019 status valid through at least Dec. 31, 2019
The promotion runs through December 15 of this year, so keep that deadline in mind.
