Disney 720x360A reader recently asked me what the best time to visit Disney is. For an answer, I turned to our resident Disney expert Liliane Opsomer, who has written several Disney-themed posts for JohnnyJet.com (as well as a bestselling book on Disney World: The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World with Kids 2017). Here’s what Liliane had to say:

“The least-busy time historically is from Labor Day in September through the beginning of October. Next slowest are the weeks in mid-January after the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend up to Presidents’ Day in February. The weeks after Thanksgiving and before Christmas are less crowded than average, as is mid-April through mid-May, after spring break and before Memorial Day. Late February, March, and early April are dicey. Crowds ebb and flow according to spring break schedules, and the timing of Presidents’ Day weekend.

The basic rule of thumb is that Disney World is more crowded when school is out and less crowded when kids are in school. However, Disney has become increasingly adept at loading slow periods of the year with special events such as Disney races, conventions, food festivals, and the like. Discounts on rooms and dining during slower periods also figure in.”
