Depending on where you are, some restaurants may be open at limited capacity but still may be offering curbside pickup, takeout, and delivery. Note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, several card-issuers have added bonus categories for dining and takeout. 

And even better, many of the cards on this list are also recommended for everyday spending. And some of them are no annual fee credit cards, which are easy to have in your wallet and use when their rewards will help you maximize your purchase. 

Since dining is part of our regular expenses, getting bonus points on restaurant purchases is an easy way to maximize your travel credit card points to use when you’re ready to travel again (or for cash back, gift cards, and more). Chase Sapphire Preferred – 2x on Dining and Restaurants Purchases

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card earns 2x Ultimate Rewards points per $1 on all dining and travel purchases worldwide (for when it’s safe to travel again). Plus, Chase Sapphire Preferred cardholders get access to DashPass, DoorDash’s subscription service. It comes with unlimited deliveries with a $0 delivery fee and reduced service fees on orders of $12+ for a minimum of one year on qualifying food purchases. Cardholders must activate by 12/31/21. Cardholders can also earn 5x points on Lyft rides through March 2022.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is a solid dining credit card for dining for many reasons. First, you have flexible redemption options where each point can always be worth at least 25% more when redeeming them through the Chase online travel portal, and you can transfer your points out to many travel partners at 1:1 ratio instantly. Second, the 80,000 point signup bonus is worth at least $1000 in award travel, or $800 in cash. Third, it has a reasonable $95 annual fee which makes this a good fit for most consumers.

Additionally, Chase cardholders of eligible cards can access the new dining hub to get even more culinary benefits with their Chase card.

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card – Best Credit Card for Dining Purchases

Most of the best credit cards for travel rewards offer tiered rewards categories. That’s how dining rewards earn more points with some cards than others. Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card is a flat-rate travel reward credit card that earns 2x miles on every purchase (including dining). But, through January 31, 2021, cardholders earn 5x miles on Uber Eats!

Your miles can be redeemed for travel purchases or used to book future travel with the Capital One miles travel portal.

The Capital One Venture Rewards comes with a number of benefits including up to $100 for an application fee credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck and the ability to transfer your miles to leading travel loyalty programs. New cardholders can earn a 100k mile bonus by spending $20,000 on purchases in the first 12 months from account opening, or earn 50,000 miles if you spend $3000 on purchases in the first 3 months.

It has a $95 annual fee but no foreign transaction fees.

Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card – Unlimited 3% Cash Back on Dining – No Annual Fee Dining Credit Card

The Capital One® SavorOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card earns an unlimited 3% dining rewards and 2% back on grocery purchases. All other purchases earn 1%. You won’t pay a foreign transaction fee or annual fee either. It’s not a bad option for items that are frequently purchased. There are no rotating categories to select or activate nor limits to how much can be earned.

American Express Gold Card: 4x Points and a $120 Annual Credit

The American Express® Gold Card cardholders earn 4x points at restaurants worldwide, including takeout and delivery, and at US supermarkets (up to $25,000 annually in purchases, then 1x). They also have the ability to earn up to $10 in monthly statement credits when using the Gold Card at Grubhub, Seamless, Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Boxed, and select Shake Shack selections (enrollment is required).

American Express Gold Card cardholders also earn 3x points on flights booked directly with airlines or on amextravel.com. You can also earn up to $100 in statement credits per calendar year for incidental fees at one selected qualifying airline. The annual fee is $250 and there are no foreign transaction fees (See Rates & Fees).

New American Express® Gold Card cardholders can earn 60,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $4,000 on eligible purchases within the first 6 months.

Wells Fargo Propel American Express Card – No Annual Fee and 3x on Dining

The Wells Fargo Propel American Express® Card earns 3x on dining and has no annual fee.

Wells Fargo considers eligible 3x dining points when you either eat at a restaurant or order in. As long as the purchase is made from select restaurants, you will earn the bonus points. Note that you won’t earn points on food purchases from caterers, bakeries, or grocery stores.

Chase Sapphire Reserve – 3x Dining Rewards

The Chase Sapphire Reserve® earns 3x points on dining purchases as well as access to free DoorDash DashPass (as long as you activate before 12/31/2021). You can also earn 3x points on travel immediately after earning your $300 travel credit. As a premium travel rewards card, you also get some luxurious travel benefits including a $300 travel credit and airport lounge access. 

Most credit card rewards points are only worth 1 cent each. With the Sapphire Reserve, your points are worth 1.5 cents each when redeemed for travel. You can also transfer them directly to your airline or hotel loyalty account where they can be worth 2 cents each. If you’re keeping track of the math, that’s double the average redemption value.

Bonus Recommendation: If you don’t need the premium travel benefits, you can also get the Chase Sapphire Preferred. It only earns 2 points on dining worldwide, but still has the 1:1 transfer option and a travel redemption bonus.

American Express Green Card – 3x Points at Restaurants Worldwide (Including Takeout and Delivery)

The American Express® Green Card has been updated in the last few months with new perks for travelers. The American Express Green Card earns 3x Membership Rewards points on restaurant purchases around the globe, including for takeout and delivery. It also earns 3x points per $1 spent on all eligible travel, including public transportation, airline tickets, and hotel nights. 

Additional travel perks include a statement credit of up to $100 annually for CLEAR membership that can be used to get through the TSA security lines more quickly. Membership can be used at select airports and stadiums across the United States. The Amex Green Card is one of the few to offer CLEAR benefits (many premium credit cards offer fee credits for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck only).

American Express Green Card cardholders can also earn up to $100 in statement credits annually for LoungeBuddy purchases. New cardholders can earn 30,000 bonus points after spending $2,000 on purchases within the first 3 months. The annual fee is $150 (See Rates & Fees). 

Chase Freedom Flex – 3% Cash Back on Dining

The Chase Freedom Flex℠ is one of the newest to be added to the Chase lineup. This card not only earns 3% back on dining at restaurants and on drugstore purchases, but it also earns 5% on travel purchased through Chase, and 1% on everything else. Additionally, cardholders earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in quarterly rotating categories (once activated). 

New cardholders can earn a $200 Bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening. They also earn 5% cash back on grocery store purchases (not including Target or Walmart purchases) on up to $12,000 spent in the first year. 

There is no annual fee and rewards do not expire as long as your account is open. 

Hilton Honors Credit Cards – at least 5x Hilton Points

Co-brand travel rewards cards tend to offer the best dining rewards. The one tradeoff is that you can only redeem your points for award travel with that particular airline or hotel. For dining rewards, the Hilton credit cards have some of the most robust rewards at U.S. restaurants:

  • 5x points: Hilton Honors American Express Card
  • 6x points: Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card
  • 7x points: Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card

Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi – 3% Back on Dining

Costco shoppers might benefit from the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi. You will get 3% back on dining and travel rewards that can be redeemed for Costco cash rewards. Other purchase categories include:

  • 4% cash back on eligible gas for the first $7,000 per year and then 1% thereafter
  • 3% cash back on restaurants and eligible travel purchases
  • 2% cash back on all other purchases from Costco and Costco.com
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases

Cardholders receive an annual credit card reward certificate, which is redeemable for cash or merchandise at U.S. Costco warehouses.

Uber Visa Credit Card – 3% Back on Dining; 5% Back on Uber Eats

The Uber Visa Credit Card earns 3% dining rewards on the following:

  • Restaurants
  • Takeout
  • Bars

You also get 3% back on hotels and airfare and 1% back for everything else. However, if you use Uber Eats, you’ll be happy to know that you’ll earn 5% back on your purchases. You also earn 5% back on Uber rides and JUMP.

Your points are worth one cent each and can be redeemed for Uber rides, cash back, and gift cards.

Tip: Get an extra $200 in Uber credit and 5x back on airline purchases with The Platinum Card® from American Express. You can also earn 5x miles on Uber Eats purchases with the Capital One Venture. However, this offer expires on January 31, 2021.

Most credit cards with bonus dining rewards offer 2 points per $1 spent. Here are a few of the best credit cards for dining and restaurants that earn 2x points.

Chase Ink Business Cash Credit Card

The Ink Business Cash℠ Credit Card earns 2% back on the first $25,000 in combined spending for restaurants and gas stations on each account anniversary year. It also earns 5% back at office supply stores and the internet, phone, and cable purchases each account anniversary year. All non-bonus purchases earn 1% back with no limit to the amount that can be earned.

Your rewards points are worth 1 cent each for cash or travel rewards, but you might consider a Chase credit card combination to make your Ink Business Cash rewards points worth more for award travel.

United Explorer Card

For a long time, airline rewards cards only paid one point on dining purchases. That’s started to change as the competition continues to heat up! The United Explorer Card now earns 2x points on dining and hotel stays. You can also get a 25% back on United in-flight food and beverage purchases.

Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard

Get 2x points at every restaurant with the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite™ Mastercard®. You will also earn double points for gas stations and American Airlines purchases. In-flight food and beverages on AA planes are eligible for a 25% statement credit. Another new benefit is getting a $100 American Airlines flight credit when you spend at least $20,00 in total card purchases during your card membership year and renew your card.

IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card

The IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card earns up to 25x points total at IHG® Hotels & Resorts worldwide. Additionally, cardholders earn 2x points at gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants and 1x point per $1 spent on all other purchases. Additional IHG travel benefits include:

  • Reward Night after each account anniversary year at eligible IHG hotels worldwide
  • Enjoy a reward night when you redeem points for any stay of 4 or more nights
  • IHG Platinum Elite status
  • TSA PreCheck or Global Entry application fee credit (up to $100)

New IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card cardholders can earn 140,000 points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening. The annual fee is $89 but is waived the first year of the account opening.  

World of Hyatt Credit Card

The World Of Hyatt Credit Card earns 9x points total on Hyatt purchases (4x points per $1 when you use your card at Hyatt hotels & 5x points per $1 you can earn as a World of Hyatt member). You also earn 2x points on restaurants, airline tickets purchased directly from the airlines, local transit, commuting services, and on fitness club and gym memberships. It arguably has the best free hotel night certificate too that lets you stay at any Category 1-4 Hyatt property each year.

Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card

The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ Credit Card doesn’t have a bonus dining category, but it earns 2x points per $1 spent on all non-Marriott purchases. Cardholders can earn 6x points per dollar spent at over 7,000 participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels. This card also comes with a free anniversary night certificate (up to 35,000 points) after each account anniversary.

Citi Double Cash Card

If you prefer cash rewards to travel rewards, the Citi® Double Cash Card cash back credit card gets 2% back on every purchase (earn 2% on every purchase with unlimited 1% cash back when you buy, plus an additional 1% as you pay for those purchases). You can redeem your rewards for cash statement credits. Citi will even pay your first late fee in case you forget to make a payment. That’s a nice perk that comes with this dining rewards credit card.

Delta SkyMiles Blue American Express Card

The Delta SkyMiles® Blue American Express Card also earns 2x miles on purchases at restaurants worldwide. This no annual fee credit card also has no foreign transaction fees (See Rates & Fees). Cardholders also earn 2x miles on Delta purchases and 1x mile on everything else. Plus, they get a 20% savings in the form of a statement credit when using your card on eligible in-flight Delta purchases of food, beverages, and audio headsets.

    This is such a crap article. You clearly have not done your research. You’ve left off multiple credit cards from big name suppliers with 0$ annual fee. I can’t believe this is the google snippet result.

      Sorry, you feel that way. We primarily focus on travel transferrable points, but there are 5 no annual fee dining credit cards mentioned: Capital One Savor, Uber Visa, Wells Fargo Propel, Costco, and Citi Double Cash.
