When to book holiday flightsThe question of when to book holiday flights is a long-running one. Some of my most popular posts—like 10 Ways to Find Cheap Thanksgiving Flights and 17 Ways to Find Cheap Flights—have included my advice on the subject. Last week, travel-search giant Orbitz weighed in with some data analysis that it believes reveals the best dates to book flights for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve. They are:

  • Thanksgiving: Thursday, October 26th
  • Christmas: Friday, October 20th
  • New Year’s Eve: Saturday, November 4th

Here’s an infographic that shows all that the Orbitz team found (you can click to enlarge):

These dates of course are not guaranteed to hold the cheapest fares, as they have emerged from an analysis of bookings made last year. Booking trends this year, your specific destinations, etc. could affect your own search, but this is a nice place to start (as is my cheap Thanksgiving flight post).
